Specialty Coatings for Surfaces Standard Paint Cannot Protect
Some surfaces will destroy an ordinary coating. Chemical exposure, constant handling, extreme abrasion, wash downs, and industrial process environments break down conventional paint quickly, and the fix is not more paint. It is a different system entirely.
Chroma Coatings applies specialty coatings across commercial, industrial, and institutional projects throughout North Carolina and the East Coast, with the training and equipment these systems require.
Specialty Coatings
Powder Coating, Rubberized & Stain Systems
Powder Coating
Powder coating is a factory grade finish applied as a dry powder and cured under heat into a hard, uniform shell. It is significantly more durable than liquid paint on metal, and in the harshest environments it is the only finish that holds up over time.
We applied powder coating throughout a Coca-Cola production facility, where the acidity in the product environment attacks conventional coatings on contact. In a plant like that, powder coating is not an upgrade. It is the only way to be confident the finish is still there in five years.
Common Powder Coating Applications
- Handrails, guardrails, and stair systems
- Equipment frames, racking, and shelving
- Architectural metal, gates, and fencing
- Fixtures, brackets, and fabricated components
- Any metal item in a chemical, food, or wash down environment
High Performance Wall and Railing Coatings
Epoxy and urethane systems applied to walls, railings, and structural surfaces deliver a hard, cleanable, chemical resistant finish where ordinary paint scuffs, stains, and fails. These systems are standard in food production, laboratories, clean rooms, commercial kitchens, and industrial corridors. See our Epoxy page for floor and wall systems in detail.
Rubberized and Protective Coatings
Rubberized coatings add a flexible, impact absorbing layer where surfaces take physical abuse or need waterproofing and sound dampening. Typical uses include truck and loading dock areas, equipment bases, bed liners and cargo surfaces, mechanical rooms, and areas subject to constant impact.
Stain and Clear Coat on Wood
Wood finishing is a different craft from painting, and it is one we take seriously. We stain and clear coat wood trim, doors, millwork, paneling, and wood ceilings in commercial and institutional interiors.
Wood ceilings in particular are demanding work. They are usually a design feature, they are visible from every angle in the room, and they are almost always overhead work at height. Consistent color across boards, controlled sheen, and a clean film with no runs is what separates finished wood from wood that has been coated.
Safety Coatings and OSHA Markings
High visibility safety coatings on handrails, bollards, guarding, and edge protection are a compliance requirement in most industrial settings. We apply them in the specified colors with products rated for the traffic and contact they will take. Floor level markings are covered on our Line Striping page.
Substrate Preparation Comes First
Every specialty system depends on the surface underneath it. Depending on the substrate and the existing condition, preparation may include abrasive blasting through our Sand Blasting service, mechanical profiling, chemical cleaning and degreasing, or specialty priming. We do not shortcut this step, because specialty coatings are too expensive to apply over a surface that will not hold them.
Talk Through Your Application
Specialty coatings are specified to conditions. Tell us what the surface is, what it is exposed to, and what has failed before. We will recommend a system that lasts.
